Australia’s first Citizens’ Parliament

Im Februar 2009 fand Australiens erstes „Citizens’ Parliament“ statt. 150 zufällig ausgewählte Bürgerinnen und Bürger aus allen Teilen des Landes diskutierten vier Tage lang über die Demokratie in Australien und wie sie verbessert werden kann. The 2009 Citizens’ Parliament was an extraordinary forum. Australians not normally involved in the political process were able to contribute to discussion about how our governments work and review the strengths and weaknesses of our democratic system. Through personal experiences, varied opinion and the sharing of information, the citizen parliamentarians devised options for change. Their recommendations were put forward in the final report of the 2009 Citizens’ Parliament.
